There’s something new on the old website.

May 20, 2025

These were originally black + white before tourists arrived.

Yes, there’s very visual German influence.

Yes, it’s been sometime since I added a post. Why?? A bit of shoulder pain then an out-of-the country trip have kept me away from the old keyboard but now, on a mostly gray Monday morning,I can devote some time to writing about life (from a tourist perspective) in Alsace. For those of you who don’t know about this part of France, it has been both French and German over the last several hundred years, and now plans to remain French. While it’s known for the high quality of the white wine, the region’s “capitol” is Strasbourg, home of the European Parliament. I’ve added a few random snaps to let you know that this is a region you will really enjoy.

Weekly Photo Tip

Keep camera parallel with subject

When colors are dramatically different, you will want to keep the focus sharp across the frame. That’s a bit easier to do when you’re hand-holding the camera to grab a shot of a moving subject. Keep reminding yourself to find–and keep–that parallel for maximum sharpness. It works quite well for small subjects.

About Jack

A classically trained musician since childhood, Jack Carlson always had the “ear” of an artist. It was only a short step to develop the artist’s “eye” as well.

The portfolio of this certified photographer reveals images that emphasize mood and composition. Their purpose is to present a feeling in addition to portrayal of person, place or thing. Sometimes that feeling is nostalgia; other times it is serenity.

Each photograph tells a story.
