Wide-Angle Lens Fakes Out Light Meter

July 24, 2021

Wide angle lens creates metering problems.

A wide angle lens presents light meter problems. Too much bright sky causes the camera’s light meter to under-expose.

Meter the shaded areas to raise the light throughout the scene.

Decide which image you prefer. If neither, meter the mid-point light level. (Camera info: 18mm, f11 @ 20, ISO 80, WB Sun)

Bright area metering raises all light levels.

Mid-point metering makes happiness.
