When it’s bright, add light

January 16, 2019

F8 @ 250, ISO 400, 70mm, -1.3 flash e/v to add touch of light

Here’s a great photo trick: Add a bit of fill flash to brighten the scene, but don’t let viewers know you’ve done it. It works this way: Check your camera to see if it has a flash compensation button (+/-).  Tape a white card behind the built-in camera flash to bounce light into the scene if your camera doesn’t have flash compensation. Consider purchasing an external flash for more lighting options.

Dial down the light output to -1 1/3 stops on your camera or external flash. Use this setting as a starting point to add just a touch of light without overpowering the ambient light in any scene.
