Flash, Macro, Tripod and Grasshopper= Photo Fun

September 30, 2025

I found this guy just hanging around on the tomato, not eating any of it but merely relaxing. He was actually there for 3 days which, as you might imagine, was long enough for me to get out the camera gear and try for a few snaps. The shot you’re looking at was taken with my macro lens and fill flash bounced off a large white card. Dial down the flash output to -1 1/3 stops from what the flash decides is ok since that’s usually too hot for the scene. Fortunately, I could cover his modeling fee. Be watchful for small creatures and keep a macro/close-focusing lens on your camera when you’re out exploring.
