Don’t hold back when the season changes

September 21, 2020

First attempt to show seasonal change.

A color shot re-thought.

A friend of mine decided to photograph a tree that had a few leaves that were beginning to change color. Since green was still the dominant color of the canopy, I didn’t understand how her picture could convey a sense of autumn. I encouraged her to find a larger patch of color and confine the image to just that and was able to lead her to the spot I had in mind after enduring only a small amount of complaining from. Once there, I suggested that she use the longest focal length lens in her bag to isolate the color thereby making a “headline” story rather than a footnote. Her longest lens went to 80mm and her shot was taken at 72mm which seemed like a fine choice. Make your own decision, but when it comes to showing color, don’t skimp.
