Always check your metering pattern

Use center-weighted or spot on brightest area.

Use either center-weighted or spot metering on the brightest part of the picture to hold down the light level. In this case, it’s the yellow part of the bird that gets the spot. For you camera setting people: 200mm, f3.5 @ 250, e/v -.7, ISO 64.
