Leonard Knight’s Salvation Mountain

I was recently in and around Palm Springs, CA visiting a long-time friend who suggested we take a 75 mile drive to see Salvation Mountain. If it’s a new to you, check it out on the web or visit the site that Leonard Knight (1931-2014) worked on for decades. The first image is the “mountain” itself without much to indicate its size. The second frame intentionally includes a person to provide a sense of scale. Take the doubt out of the viewer’s mind by adding some point of reference. Taking time to find one is part of my See — Think — Act school of photography.

Adding a person provides a sense of scale.
